Questions surround the future of one of Australasia’s best-loved fashion labels
Rumours are flying thick and fast about the status of cult denim kings Ksubi and their fashion empire. Runway Reporter understands the fashion label has scheduled an urgent meeting of its directors this week.
The label recently made 15 staff redundant and womenswear designer and ex-Zambesi creative director Tulia Wilson has also left the company.
Ksubi has expanded its fashion business over the past couple of years, developing its women’s and menswear lines. The label was also due to launch a new shoe line in stores early next year.
Ksubi’s website and webstore was down for much of the past week and currently only displays a cheeky ‘under construction’ image of toy diggers sitting atop what appears to be a woman’s naked torso… or possibly just a diorama landscape.
When contacted today, a representative from the company refused to comment, asking for all questions to be submitted by email. There has been no reply to an email sent by Runway Reporter.

i read in the sunday times gossip column that even though the ksubi boys are worth a combined $24 million (according to BRW’s 2008 rich list) they owe an estimated $8 million to manufacturers. it is predicted that a new deal they are attempting to sign with an american chain of departments stores (something starting with a n…) might see they ‘sign out’ of debt. retailers have said it’s not ‘that bad’, that ksubi won’t apparently be closing down, just reducing their lines to denim and sunglasses. but until ksubi puts out an official word, who knows…!?
