AUTUMN WINTER 2011

Titled 'Mileu' this is Song for the Muts third collection.

Song for the Mute have come a long way since their inception only one year ago, the label by Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty has gone from strength to strength. Firstly, securing Polish model Pawel Bednarek for their Autumn/Winter ’11 campaign and lookbook, Bednarek has graced editorials by Dazed and Confused. They were then announced as L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Designer Award finalists chosen by Vogue Australia’s editor-in-chief Kirstie Clements, Myer, David Jones and last year’s winner Dion Lee. Following this Parisian Showroom Romeo now represents the label within the European market starting with Paris Menswear Fashion Week in January 2011.

This collection roughly based around Lyna’s late grandmother whom supported and encouraged her to pursue her passion in designing. ‘Milieu’ which means the ‘middle’ or the ‘core’ is Lyna’s attempt to communicate her voice and feelings, how she feels, her mood and what she is experiencing and/or has experienced. This all adds significantly to the development of their concepts. To be able to portray these emotions through the form of clothing requires Lyna to develop new shapes, styles and new ways of making garments. Keeping this concept in mind, this season is more about the process of merging construction and new shapes to heighten the natural qualities of the fabric within the collection.

SPRING SUMMER 2010/11

Expected delivery of 'Au Clair' at For-Tomorrow starts from August 2010.

Through an exploration of fragility and the natural harmony of the sea, Song for the Mute brings you to the light with their highly anticipated second collection Au Clair. Captivated by the structure of shells, Au Clair combines the delicate exterior and inner charm in pieces that find the balance between controlled drapes and textured layers. Embracing the shell's natural imperfections, Song for the Mute designers Lyna Ty and Melvin Tanaya created Au Clair in the image that each imperfection represents a fragment of oneís character - of one's individuality. Find the essence of your form. Be reborn in your shell - Au Clair.

The success of their first season has gained much attention worldwide and Song for the Mute is definitely the 'one to watch'.

For-Tomorrow's support will continue into this, their second range, and we will be carrying the entire collection.

AUTUMN WINTER 2010 - Ink

Song for the Mute is the merging of the creative talent from award winning graphic artist Melvin Tanaya and Parisian-born, Italian-trained fashion designer Lyna Ty. Lyna won the 1st place scholarship in the Whitehouse Institute of Design, allowing her to finish her masters at the renowned Accademia Italiana di Moda. Melvin, a graduate of the Billy Blue School of Graphic Arts with a degree in Communication Design and a Masters in Commerce, brings his creative vision, direction, and business know-how to the partnership.

Song for the Mute is a nod toward the directional struggle encountered by the contemporary male. Exploring a fusion of eras in their debut A/W 2010 collection Ink - Song for the Mute pieces are raw, organic and storytelling - the antithesis of corporate uniformity of life and relevance in todays wardrobe.
